A lookback to our beginnings - Shanghailanders by Juli Min Review

Thank you NetGalley and Dialogue Books for providing me an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The thing that drew me the most to requesting an ARC for this book was the concept.

The idea of following one families story, and seeing how they’ve grown or changed is interesting enough. But to see it in reverse? Fascinating.

We see where they end up and work our way back, with snapshots and piecing together what shaped their present day and futures.

A true exploration of family dynamics and the journey of time.

At some points the narrative felt a little disjointed for my personal taste, and I found on occasions I’d get a little confused and reread bits to ensure I understood the story.
